I'm posting frequently now to make up for my previous blog neglect.
A rental car is essential for getting to all the events happening around here.
Until last year, I used Sakura Rent-A-Car, a favorite of Japanese tourists, but to cut costs, I decided to try SIXT this time.

I was able to easily reserve it in Japanese through their website from Japan, and renting it for 18 days cost $1000 + a $200 deposit, which was $350 cheaper than last year.
They aggressively push full-coverage insurance, but I only got the basic insurance and didn't add any options like a car navigation system.
The car model is a Nissan VERSA.

Apparently, it's called a Tiida in Japan.
It's a compact sedan, but the trunk is spacious, perfect for shopping.
After getting the keys at the counter, it was time to go!
I've gotten pretty used to driving in America, but I'm still not good with freeways.
Everyone is speeding along at 120-140 km/h, and the signs are hard to understand.
So, I usually stick to the surface streets.
It takes a bit longer, but I get to enjoy the scenery and cityscapes, really experiencing the California vibe.
Next time, it's the motel edition.
