This is a MIX CD released on his self-owned label by Daddy-Kan, a selector from Amigo Gun Shot Crew, who, as a reggae selector, was quick to identify and embody the shared aesthetics of Chicano Soul/Lowrider Oldies and Jamaican Oldies. This release follows "MORE TODAY THAN YESTERDAY -Brand New Vintage Gems-," which he released in 2019. Why are the Soul music favored by Chicanos, Barrio Oldies, Lowrider Soul, and more recently, Souldies (Soul + Oldies), so similar to Jamaican Oldies? Both genres feature gritty yet sophisticated street music, ultimate sweetness as an antithesis to tough daily life, lingering melancholy, a mix of bravado and vulnerability, and an undeniable local feel and originality that emerges despite an admiration for US R&B ~ Soul. The surprising commonality between Lowrider Classics and songs covered by Jamaican artists suggests a shared perspective and sensibility, perhaps stemming from their experiences as minorities. As the title suggests, this MIX is a masterful and definitive collection that skillfully weaves together Souldies (Soul + Oldies) by Jamaicans, meaning Soul tunes by Jamaicans, through the aforementioned aesthetics, spanning from 50s Doo-Wop to 70s Disco style. With the recent increase in current Vintage Soul tracks that resonate with Jamaican R&B Ballads, this is also a very timely release. Finally, this work contains Daddy-Kan's personal Special Dedication, and even setting aside the ramblings of music maniacs, I can confidently say it is a masterpiece that profoundly touches the heart.
